Preparing FlexNet Operations

To prepare FlexNet Operations to receive usage data, you must create and associate several entities using the Producer Portal. Some of these steps are common to any use of FlexNet Operations with FlexNet Licensing, and some steps are specific to FlexNet Usage Management.

This preparation includes the following exercises.

Exercise

Description

Usage Management: Creating License Models

Shows how to create two license models: one for metered products and one for unmetered products.

Usage Management: Creating Features

Explains how to create the metered feature, survey, for which metered usage is tracked and an unmetered feature, baseline-client-reg, that is necessary to register usage-capture clients running outside of trusted environments.

Usage Management: Creating a Product Line

Covers the creation of a product line necessary for usage reporting.

Usage Management: Creating Products

Explains how to create two separate products: one for the metered feature and one for the unmetered feature.

Usage Management: Creating an Account and User

Shows how to create a customer account and user to which the new products will be entitled.

Usage Management: Entitling the Account

Describes how to create an entitlement, configure its line items with the new products, and entitle the customer account to those line items.

Usage Management: Viewing the Auto-Provisioned License Server

Explains how to find the Cloud Licensing Service license server that was created when the entitlement was deployed.

After you verify that the new license server was created, the FlexNet Operations preparations are complete. Continue with Usage Management: Obtaining the License Server URL, Usage Management: Running a Usage-Capture Client Example, and Usage Management: Viewing Usage Information.
