About Download Package Restrictions

Producers can set up download package restrictions to either permit or deny End-User Portal access to the download package. These restrictions can be specified for specific accounts or based on geographical information—country and/or region—of accounts.

Download package restrictions based on specific accounts can be useful in situations where a producer is delivering a beta release only to accounts who are participating in the beta test process or selectively make a hotfix available only to designated accounts.

Restrictions based on geographical information helps producers to ensure that software approved for a specific region can be downloaded only by users in that region. When restrictions are in place, the End-User Portal lists only download packages that the user is entitled to.

By default, a download package is unrestricted. If no restrictions are created for a download package, it is accessible to all entitled accounts and in all geographic areas.

The following sections provide information about how the restriction process works:

Restrictions for Specific Accounts
Restrictions Based on Geographical Location

Important:Export Compliance restrictions override any restrictions specified on the Restrict Download Package page.

Account-level restrictions and geographic restrictions have the same precedence. If restrictions set up for a specific account conflict with the restrictions based on geographical location, access to the download package is denied.

Restrictions for Specific Accounts

Accounts can be added to the Account(s) Restricted to Download Package list on the Restrict Download Package page one at a time. The process starts with a search for the account to permit or deny access by its account ID or its account name. Search results are shown on the Find an Account page in a pop-up window. When you choose to restrict a previously unrestricted download package, the Find an Account page provides the option of specifically permitting (Restrict Allow) or denying (Restrict Deny) access to the selected account. From that point on, any other accounts you add to the restrictions list must follow the choice (Restrict Allow/Restrict Deny) you made for the first account.

Restrict Allow—Creates a file access “allow list” that stipulates the accounts that are permitted to access the download package. Any account not on the list is not permitted to access the package in the End-User Portal, even if they are otherwise entitled to the product.
Restrict Deny—Creates a files access “block list” that stipulates the accounts that are not permitted to access the download package. None of the accounts on the list are permitted to access the package in the End-User Portal, even if they are otherwise entitled to the product.

Multiple accounts can be removed from the restrictions list on the Restrict Download Package page by selecting their check boxes in the Remove this Account column and then clicking Remove Selected Accounts.

For more information about restricting files, see Restricting a Download Package. You can find step-by-step instructions in the subsection Restricting Access Based on Account.

Restrictions Based on Geographical Location

Access to a download package can be restricted to accounts whose end-users are in a specific country and, optionally, a region in that country, as specified in the account’s geographical information.

When you add countries and regions to the Restrict Access to Selected Countries list on the Restrict Download Package page, you create an “allow list” which stipulates that only accounts from that country and region are permitted to access the download package. As a prerequisite, geographical information must be specified for accounts that are to be placed on such an “allow list”. You provide this information on an account’s Create An Account page, in the Country and Region fields. For more information, see Creating a New Account.

Important Notes

End-users belonging to an account with geographical information that is different to the country or region specified in the “allow list” are not permitted to access the package in the End-User Portal, even if they are otherwise entitled to the product.
The names of any regions that you enter on the Add Country page in the Region field must match the spelling of the region names that are specified in the Region field of the customer accounts.
Specifying a region is optional. If the Restrict Access to Selected Countries list contains only a country (without specifying a region), access is given to users associated with accounts that match the country, regardless of whether a region is specified in the account.
If the Restrict Access to Selected Countries list contains a country and a region, only users associated with accounts that match the country AND the region are allowed to access the download package.
The Restrict Access to Selected Countries list can have a maximum of 50 regions for each country.
If you set up geographical restrictions and sell through channel partners, a channel partner's country and region must be included in a download package's geographical restriction list of countries and regions.
