Adding Files

The first step in making files available to your customers in the End-User Portal is to add the files to FlexNet Operations.

Important:Only the following characters are allowed in file names: lowercase alphabet (a-z), uppercase alphabet (A-Z), digits (0-9), minus (-), underscore (_), and dot (.). Filenames must not start with a dot (.). Using other characters might cause the file upload to fail.

After a file is added, you can upload a file image and associate the file with one or more download packages. See Editing File Information and Managing File Associations for more information about the actions you can take once a file has been added.

To add a file

1. Click Products > Create File. This link opens the Add File page.
2. On the Add File page, enter file-related details for the file you want to add.
File Description—(required) The name the End-User Portal displays for the file. Maximum length: 500 characters.
File ID—(required) Your account’s unique identifier for the file. Maximum length: 100 characters.
Delivery Source—Indicate whether the file is uploaded to FlexNet Operations or if it is provided via an external source.

Note:The External delivery source should only be selected if you are using the Updates and Insights module to deliver file download URLs programmatically via the REST APIs. For all files that should be available for download via the End-User Portal, use FlexNet Operations as the Delivery Source.

If External is selected as a Delivery Source, enter the following details:

External Source—(required) The URL for the externally sourced file.
File Size (bytes)—(required) Enter a number or use the calculator icon to automatically calculate the file size.

Note:The calculator icon only works on external sources that use either the HTTP or HTTPS protocol. All other protocols will return a value of 0.

MD5 CheckSum and/or SHA2 CheckSum—(required) At least one of these must be entered, though, optionally both may be.

Other fields are optional. For more information about file attributes, see About File Attributes.

3. Complete the file addition process by clicking Save, Save and Add Another, or Save and Upload File.
Click Save to add the file and upload the file image later. The Producer Portal saves the file and shows its View File page.
Click Save and Add Another to save the current file and start adding a new download file. The Producer Portal saves the current file and resets the Add File page fields for new input.
Click Save and Upload File to add the file and upload the file image. The Producer Portal saves the file and shows the Upload File page. See Uploading a File Image for file image upload instructions.
