License Model Types

FlexNet Operations comes with sample license models of each type, and it is possible to create custom license models as well.

These license models can be categorized into the following types:

Types of License Models

License Model

Description

Certificate License Models

The FlexNet license server uses the contents of a license file, or license certificate, to control how a given piece of software can be used. You can vary the contents of a license file to provide variations of your application with different licensing needs, such as an evaluation version and a full version, without being required to provide different binaries or recompile your application. Licensing systems that use license files are referred to as certificate-based licensing.

Trusted License Models

License information is stored securely in trusted storage rather than in license certificates. Trusted storage is a secure location on the target system into which FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit can write licensing data. The licensing data stored in trusted storage is encrypted and authenticated so that the end user cannot read or modify it. Moreover, FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit can detect if trusted storage has been deleted or tampered with.

Embedded License Models

For device manufacturers using FlexNet Embedded. The embedded license model includes two license types: counted and uncounted.

Custom License Models

FlexNet Operations can be configured with a variety of custom license models.
