Creating Devices

You can create new devices in the Producer Portal. Each device is identified by a device ID (typically, a serial number) and its host type. You can create a set of devices for which licenses can be generated, as well as generate pre-installed licenses for the device. Entitlements can be linked to devices.

A new server can submit its own capability requests to FlexNet Operations and serve its own licenses to separate FlexNet Embedded served devices.

Producers who use FlexNet Cloud Licensing Service can choose from two Server deployment options to create a server as a Local (default) or as a Cloud license server. If auto provisioning is permitted by the license model, Cloud Licensing Service servers can be automatically created when the entitlement is deployed.

Note:You are permitted to create a server and a nodelocked device with the same Device ID and ID Type.

To create a device

1. Click Devices > Create Device. The Device | New Device page opens.
2. On the Device | New Device page, type a device Name (required).
3. Select an ID Type from the drop-down menu; below it, type the device’s ID (required).
4. Select an Account to specify which account owns the device (skip this step if you are creating an anonymous device):
a. Click the search icon next to Account. The Assign Device Owner window appears.
b. In the Assign Device Owner window, click the Customers or Partners tab, as appropriate.
c. Choose an account and click Select. The Assign Device Owner window closes and the Account field on the Device | New Device page is populated.
5. Optionally, specify values for Model, Identity, Site name, and Notes. (See About Device Attributes for details about these attributes.)

Important:Be aware that the device model you specify may include a default pre-installed product. In this case, adding a pre-installed product to the device overrides the device model’s pre-installed product.

6. Click Save.

The Producer Portal creates the new device and opens its default view page.
