Aliasing a File
You can create an alias of an existing file from the file’s View File page. In FlexNet Operations, an alias for a file uses the same file image as an existing file but has its own attributes. Initially, the file ID, file description, and other attributes are copied from the current file.
The main benefit of creating an alias is that you can maintain a separate file, with its own description, restrictions, and download package associations, without the need to upload redundant file images.
To add a file alias
1. | On the View File page, click Edit > Alias this File. This link opens the Add File Alias page. |
2. | Edit the details for the file alias. The File ID must be unique; hence, you must at least provide a different File ID. |
3. | Click Save. |
The Producer Portal adds the file alias and opens the View File page for the file alias.
Note:The Alias field value is Yes (Alias of System FileID <fileID>), where fileID is the system file ID for the original file (the file on which this file alias was based). If you want to view or make changes to the original file, click its system file ID.
