Mapping Additional Product Entitlements to a License Server

In this exercise, you use the End-User Portal to map 3 copies of product 10MbpsVPN5000 to the ABCVPN_Server server.

Note:If you just completed the Creating a FlexNet Embedded License Server exercise, you can start with Step 3 of this exercise.

To map 3 copies of product 10MbpsVPN5000 to license server ABCVPN_Server

1. In the End-User Portal, click Devices > Devices. The Devices page appears.
2. In the devices list, click the ABCVPN_Server link. The View Server page appears with the server details.
3. Click Action and select Map Entitlements from the menu. The Map Entitlements page appears with server details and additional products available.
4. On the 10MbpsVPN5000, Version 1.0 line of the table, type 3 in the Qty to add field.
5. Click Save. The View Server page appears with this message: Entitlements successfully mapped. Note that the Status of the 10MbpsVPN5000, Version 1.0 product is License not generated.
6. Click Action > Download Capability Response to generate the license. When asked if you want to open or save the binary license file, save it as <FlexNet_Embedded_install_dir>\bin\tools\ABCVPN_Server.bin, where <FlexNet_Embedded_install_dir> is the directory in which your FlexNet Embedded licensing toolkit is installed. The exact behavior varies slightly, depending on your browser and operating system.
7. Under View Server, click View and select View History from the menu. On the Server History page that appears, review the Time, Event, and Additional Details of each line in the list.
8. Click Devices > Devices and click the ABCVPN_Server link. On the View Server page, note that the server does not include any pre-installed product and the Status of the 10MbpsVPN5000 product is now License generated.
9. To use the FlexNet Embedded printbin tool to view the contents of the binary license file:
a. Open a command prompt window.
b. In the command prompt window, navigate to navigate to <FlexNet_Embedded_install_dir>\bin\tools, the directory in which you saved the license file in Step 6.
c. At the prompt, type the command
printbin ABCVPN_Server.bin
where ABCVPN_Server.bin is the name of the binary license file.
10. Review the license file, which looks similar to:

11. In the End-User Portal, click Activation & Entitlements > List Entitlements. The List Entitlements page appears.
12. On the List Entitlements page, note that VPN5050 Available quantity is 4 and Total quantity is 5, and that 10MbpsVPN5000 Available quantity is 4 and Total quantity is 10.
13. Log out of the End-User and Producer Portals.
