Short Code Activations

Trusted activations are normally done programmatically as transactions between a client or server activation utility and the FlexNet Operations server. Usually, the activation utility generates a request that is submitted programmatically and the FlexNet Operations server generates a response that is used to complete the activation.

However, if a customer’s environment does not support communication with the FlexNet Operations server, FlexNet Operations can generate a short code activation specification record (ASR) that can be used to generate an activation request. Short code activations are typically used in activations performed over the phone.

A producer uses FlexNet Operations to generate a short code ASR and bundles it with the product.

A FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit activation utility running on the machine where the license is to be activated uses the short code ASR bundled with the product to generate a short request code.

The short request code is sent to the producer and loaded into FlexNet Operations to generate a short response code.

•

The response code is saved to a file; the file is sent to the customer and is used by the FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit activation utility to process the activation response and activate the license.

To allow a customer to activate a license using a short response code

Create a short code ASR for a product.

Bundle the short code ASR with the product or send the customer the short code ASR in a file.

Instruct the customer to use the FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit activation utility that you provide to generate a short request code from the short code ASR file.

Receive the generated short request code from the customer, along with the customer’s activation ID.

In FlexNet Operations, click Licenses > Short Code Activation.

Enter values in the following fields.

Short Code Activation Fields
Field	Description
Short Request Code	Short request code generated by the FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit activation utility and sent by the customer.
Activation ID	Activation ID of the line item or web register key that you want to activate.

Click Next to generate and view the short response code.
