About Producers

A producer typically identifies an account that creates the software presented for download on the End-User Portal. You can create any number of producers your account requires. To facilitate the creation of download packages, you must have at least one producer, as it is a required attribute of download packages.

Many companies only use a single producer. Others use the Producer attribute to distinguish between different product groups or families. When you click List Producers in the Products menu, the Producer Portal displays a list of all the producers your account has created. Click a producer name to view the producer information, and if necessary, modify it.

On the End-User Portal, the producer acts as the top level category for the files your users can download. Users who are entitled to products of more than one producer see a list of producers when they look for downloads. For example, users who click Downloads > List All in the End-User Portal must first choose from a list of producers and then from a list of product lines and then product versions to show a list of download packages. So, in normal situations, the producer serves only as a method of grouping products, download packages, and files for display on the End-User Portal.
