The Updates and Insights Module

The Updates and Insights module provides a single delivery and update experience for software and devices within FlexNet Operations. It provides an integrated solution for entitlement, account, and update management to give producers visibility and control to manage product releases for their customer accounts.

With this module, producers can provide:

security patches to keep devices up to date and reduce security risk,

•

in-product updates to applications (2018 R2 and later versions),

•

entitlement-driven updates to help prevent revenue loss by ensuring only those with valid entitlements get updates. (Entitlement checks can be disabled to deliver vital security patches.)

This module uses the FlexNet Operations mechanism for hosting and delivering updates, or can leverage a producer's existing hosting infrastructure investment.

Updates can be delivered to all types of devices—standalone devices (including anonymous devices), served devices, and servers. However, the way updates are delivered differ for anonymous devices. For more information, see Anonymous Devices.

End users can keep up to date with automated security patches without having to download them manually from a portal, reducing security exposure. They will have access to updates on a per-platform basis, including custom platforms defined by the producer.

In addition to providing updates, the Updates and Insights module also enables devices to log events in the Notification Server. Events provide insights into the process or outcome of an upgrade, or how the software is being used. They can be of particular interest to product managers in understanding how software is being used and whether new features are being adopted. For more information, see Logging Device Events.

The Updates and Insights module does not support the distribution of containerized applications.
