FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit

Windows Platform

The exercises in this getting started section require a FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit installed on a Windows platform (either the i86_n3 or x64_n6 toolkit). Each exercise uses sample utilities and executables included in the Windows toolkit. The same components are included in UNIX toolkits. However, to perform the exercises on a UNIX machine, you must adjust the path and file name syntax for the UNIX environment.

Activation Utilities

FlexNet Publisher Licensing activation utilities are designed so that the end user can enter required input via explicit command line arguments. The exercises in this getting started section use command line arguments to issue activation commands. These arguments represent one way of supplying input to the utilities; this method can differ from your specific requirements as a publisher.

Commands are issued in relation to the platform directory under the FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit installation directory. For example, if the Windows 64-bit toolkit is installed, commands are issued from a command prompt in the x64_n6 directory.

License Server Manager

The license server manager forwards connections from a FlexEnabled application to the correct vendor daemon, which is the part of the license server that authenticates requests and serves licenses. When an exercise requires a license server manager, lmadmin is used.

Note:If necessary, you can use the alternative license server manager, lmgrd, in place of lmadmin.

The exercises use the sample vendor daemon, called demo, included in the licensing toolkit.

Toolkit Directories

It is assumed, for exercises in this getting started section, that FlexNet Operations is installed on a Windows machine. The table below lists the toolkit directories, with their shortcut names, referenced in the exercises.

Shortcut Name

Location

<install_dir>

No default. Path is defined at toolkit installation time.

<platform_dir>

<install_dir>\i86_n3 (or <install_dir>\x_64_n6)

<publisher>

<install_dir>\i86_n3\publisher (or <install_dir>\x64_n6\publisher)

Become familiar with the FlexNet Publisher Licensing Toolkit directory structure for your installation before proceeding; these shortcuts are used throughout the getting started section.
