About Trial Products
Producers can provide free trial registrations for their products. Trial registration allows your customers to acquire temporary license rights to designated products by providing their email address and, optionally, other contact information in the End-User Portal.
How Does It Work?
To support free trials, producers create a custom content page to be a destination where trial users can find your trial products and opt-in to try out those products. This trial registration page shows a list of products that have been made available for trials and requests (at minimum) an email address from the trial user. (Other contact information can also be gathered but is not required, by FlexNet Operations, for the trial registration process.)
After a user selects a trial product, supplies the required contact information, and clicks Complete, the End-User Portal sends them an email message with their End-User Portal login information and entitles them to a trial of the selected product. (The trial period is determined by the product’s license model.)
Steps for Supporting Trial Registrations
Supporting trial registrations requires planning and preparation. Producers who want to support trial registrations must perform the following steps to make their products available to trial users:
• | Create and deploy the products and license models you want to offer for trial registrations. These can be existing products and license models, but the trial period is based on the expiration in the license model. |
• | Map part numbers—with Available for Trial—to these product/license model combinations. |
• | Create custom content for the Trial Registration page using the TrialRegistration template. This custom content is customizable and brand-able. When published, it shows the trial products and contact information input controls. See About Product Trial Registration Support for details about creating the Trial Registration page. |
• | Optionally create a trial registration-specific variation of the Welcome Email for End Users email template. The Trial Registration custom content page identifies the template variation to use. Without alterations, trial users receive a message based on the default Welcome Email for End Users template. |
• | Link prospective trial customers to your Trial Registration page using the Custom Content ID value of your trial registration page. |
