About Products
Products are a collection of features linked to a license model. They represent the basic orderable unit in FlexNet Operations. The figure below depicts the relationships among products, features, license models, product lines, and part numbers.
Important:Prior to creating a product, you must deploy your license technology and at least one license model. You must also create the features that will make up your product.
A product’s attributes vary by the licensing you use and by your needs. There are a number of attributes that are particular to one license technology. There are also a number of optional FlexNet Operations features, such as part numbers and product relationships, that are included in the product creation steps.
Adding a product is the third step in the four-step product packaging wizard. The product creation steps include
• | Set product attributes. |
• | Add features and feature bundles. |
• | Link license models. |
• | Map part numbers (optional). |
• | Specify product relationships (optional). |
• | Map product lines (see note, below). |
• | Review product creation. |
Note:Product lines are optional for most producers but required for producers who use FlexNet Operations for electronic software delivery. Product lines tie products to download packages, files, license agreements, and producers. See Managing Product Lines and About Download Management and FlexNet Electronic Software Delivery for more information.
